About 70 bicyclists, some on tandems and others towing children in trailers, converged on Eugene for the third annual mural bike tour on Saturday.
The city itself became a public art gallery as cyclists snaked their way through the Whiteaker neighborhood and downtown Eugene, pausing to take in 16 murals.
At each stop, they learned — often from the artists themselves — what inspired the work, how it was created and what ideas the artist wanted to convey.
Some cyclists said they came for the exercise, some for the art and some to do something fun with their kids on a sweltering Saturday.
But they all left the tour with a greater awareness and appreciation for the many murals that brighten Eugene’s cityscape.
