The walls of several Eugene businesses are about to get a colorful renovation.

Seven street artists from around the world will converge starting Sunday for Eugene Walls, a seven-day urban art festival presented by the 20×21 EUG Mural ­Project. They each will add a public mural to walls throughout the city using a variety of urban art techniques such as stencils and spray paint.

The weeklong event is part of the city-­sponsored effort to install 20 art murals ­created by international and local artists before the IAAF track and field world championships come to Hayward Field at the University of Oregon in the summer of 2021.

Debbie Williamson-Smith, communications director for the project, said the Eugene Walls festival emulates street art celebrations that have become popular worldwide in cities from Toronto to Dubai.

“We really want to support public art that inspires wonder and evokes dialogue, and I think that’s what is happening,” she said.
